A father was robbed of R30 000 in front of his wife and children after apparently being followed from a bank in Festival Mall.
Two armed men in a white Polo blocked the man while he was travelling on West Street at 1.20pm, and demanded he hands over the money he had withdrawn from the bank a short while ago.
“The man’s children and wife were with him in the car at the time of the robbery,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
In light of this incident, Kempton Park head of crime prevention, Col Alistair Subramanian, has warned residents not to withdraw large amounts of cash.
“Kempton Park police have received several complaints of similar incidents lately,” said Mtshali.
“The police have now deployed police officers in uniform, as well as in civilian clothes, at specific locations where these crimes are prevalent, including malls, to try to catch the suspects in the act,” he added.
