Taxi passenger shot dead in Umthambeka, teen wounded

A man was shot dead and a teenager survived a gunshot wound while they were riding in a taxi in Umthambeka Section, Tembisa, on November 12.

Tembisa South SAPS members received a complaint of a shooting in Slovo Street.

Capt Neldah Sekgobela said one of the victims was a 15-year-old high school learner.

“The other victim was a man between 30 and 35 years old. He owned a tavern in Umthambeka Section,” Sekgobela said.

The man was hit in his middle and lower body, and the learner sustained bullet wounds in both legs.

“The victims were taken to the nearest hospital. The older victim succumbed to his wounds and died on November 13,” Sekgobela said.

She said the victims were travelling in a brown Toyota Venture when four suspects armed with firearms allegedly stopped the vehicle and opened fire on them.

Tembisa South SAPS is investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

The police are appealing to anyone with information that may help in the arrest of the suspects to come forward.
