Employees robbed at gunpoint after withdrawing large sum at Greenstone

Shots were fired and the suspects got away in a car with a registration number made of tape.

Two colleagues were robbed of a large sum of money in Edenvale on Tuesday after withdrawing money from an employee account at Absa in the Greenstone Shopping Centre.

According to Capt Neldah Sekgobela, spokesperson for the Tembisa South SAPS, the victims were returning from the bank when a brown Toyota Corolla Conquest cornered them in 15th Avenue at around 12.45pm.

“Three unknown armed suspects pointed firearms at them,” Sekgobela said in a statement. “The suspects took the bag of money from the employees. About two shots were fired, but fortunately, no one was hurt.”

Sekgobela added that two cartridges and a weapon were found on the scene.

“The suspects’ car registration number was created by tape,” Sekgobela concluded.
