Jiyane Secondary School tops in matric results

Jiyane Secondary School tops all Tembisa schools by scoring a 98.6% pass rate.

On January 4, scores of matriculants dared the drizzling weather and waited throughout the night for the early morning papers to see their matric results.

Among the learners who waited at Sasol garage next to Birch Acres Mall was teacher Rodney Mashiane who was eager to see how his learners fared in the 2018 matric exams.

The Jiyane Secondary School teacher said he was very excited because their school came first in the top performing schools in Tembisa.

He said they made it despite all the challenges they faced during the year.

“There were times when learners did not show up in classes because of unforeseen circumstances.

“During that process, the school’s principal was always supportive to the educators who encouraged learners to make time for their studies,” Mashiane explained.

He said Jiyane Secondary School scored a 98.6% pass rate and he added that the good score came about as a result of a collective effort from all the teachers.

“We had extra classes in the afternoon and facilitated early morning classes as well.

“I would like to congratulate learners for their results.

“They had a point to prove by making the situation work to their advantage because many people had lost faith in them,” Mashiane said.

The teacher said the 2018 class has set a high record and the 2019 class needed to get 100% pass rate.

“All eyes are now on them.

“If they have a positive attitude everything is possible,” Mashiane said with pride.

He also thanked every teacher who helped in increasing Jiyane Secondary School’s pass rate and commended parents in the school’s governing body for their support during the challenges.
