The social ails of illegal dumping is destroying the community of Vusimuzi, says Jonas Mushi, who called on the DA in Ekurhuleni to urgently try to assist in curbing illegal dumping.
Clr Mabenkenyane Thamahane, DA spokesperson for human settlements in Ekurhuleni, said: “Driving through the streets of Vusimuzi, I was horrified to find the mass scale of illegal dumping, including in cemeteries.
“The bad odour fills the air and community members stated the air is making them feel sick, while many are forced to stay indoors due to the unbearable smell. The infestation of rodents is also becoming a serious problem,” Thamahane added.
Illegal dumping is allowed to continue due to the lack of by-law enforcement by the City of Ekurhuleni. With no visible policing or proper enforcement, residents are the ones who suffer, according to him.
“As the DA, we call on the ANC-run City of Ekurhuleni to clean the illegal dumping and ensure proper by-law enforcement. We will petition the City of Ekurhuleni to improve the lives of the community.”
