Norkem SAPS nab alleged Birch Acres hijackers

The alleged crime took place in Birch Acres.

Members of Norkem Park SAPS managed to corner three suspected Birch Acres hijackers early Wednesday morning.

According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for the station, a 33-year-old man hijacked a victim at gunpoint in Umgeya Street at 7.20pm on Tuesday. The suspect drove off in the stolen Hyundai Grand, with alleged co-conspirators behind him in a Toyota Yaris.

“Later, police managed to stop the suspect, but he abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled in the Yaris,” Molokomme told Express.

The following day at about 2am, police spotted the getaway car in Rabie Ridge, with three suspects inside.

“Police managed to arrest the suspects for alleged hijacking,” Molokomme concluded.

The suspects are between 25 and 30 years old.
