Two men and a woman were arrested at OR Tambo International Airport last week after they were discovered smuggling drugs through this port of entry.
On January 8 a 49-year-old man was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation. The man was found in possession of drugs with an estimated street value of over R100 000.
Erik Korpel was to board an evening flight to Munich when he was intercepted with Cat in his luggage, resulting in his immediate arrest. He briefly appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on January 10 on charges of dealing in drugs.
Also last week, two suspects, a 47-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were arrested separately after being found in possession of drugs during a routine investigation.
Raquel Mukoko had swallowed several synthetic “bullets” containing cocaine. She had arrived from Sao Paolo on January 8 in transit to Windhoek. She had since appeared in court twice and her case was postponed to January 21 for her to secure an attorney. She remains in custody.
Ali Ahmed Camaley was meant to depart to Frankfurt when he was stopped at the check-in counter following intelligence. His luggage was searched and among his clothing, parcels containing drugs were discovered. He was arrested and had since appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.
