EMPD drill squad wins wheels for training centres

Thirty bikes and 120 push-wheelers worth R20 000 were their reward for coming second.

Members of the EMPD Drill Squad acquitted themselves in a splendid fashion at the 2018 Nasrec Rand Show Drilling Competition and as a result, were awarded equipment for the junior traffic training centres (JTTC) by the Gauteng Community Safety Department in the form of bikes and push-wheelers.

They were awarded 30 bikes and 120 push-wheelers worth R20 000 for coming second in the tough and close competition in which Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP), Tshwane Metro Police (TMPD) and Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) also took part. The first position was taken by JMPD.

The equipment will come in handy in the training of junior primary school learners in road safety at the EMPD JTTCs in Kempton Park, Benoni and Vosloorus, said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the metro police.

Vosloorus JTTC is currently undergoing renovations.
