A 35-year-old woman who swallowed drugs with a value of R181 000 briefly appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s on Monday.
She allegedly also hid drugs in a body wrap around her waist, bringing the total value of the drugs she allegedly carried to R600 000.
The suspect was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on January 31.

During an intelligence-driven operation, the multi-disciplinary narcotics team at OR Tambo International Airport, a passenger was identified and she and her luggage were searched.
A body search by members of customs and excise initially revealed she had concealed drugs in a body wrap around her waist. The suspect was arrested and then also sent for x-rays.
The x-rays further revealed she had swallowed foreign objects. Those objects comprised multiple “bullets” containing drugs with an estimated street value of R181 000.
People constantly attempt to smuggle drugs through the airport despite continuous arrests and successful prosecution of such perpetrators. Smugglers are warned that, with the capacity and capabilities at the port of entry, they will definitely be detected.
