Police followed up information of four suspects driving a Hyundai who robbed a salon in Bramley and hijacked a VW Polo while they were fleeing from the scene.

The suspects also hijacked another vehicle, a BMW in Edenvale, and drove towards Tembisa while police were tracking them.

The VW Polo and a BMW were abandoned in Norkem Park. The four suspects driving the Hyundai came across a roadblock in Tembisa where a shoot-out ensued.

According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, members of Alexandra SAPS spotted the stolen Volkswagen Polo on Modderfontein Road with a male suspect (45) driving.

“When the police tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect sped off,” Molokomme said. A chase ensued and police were finally able to stop the suspect on the corner of Bosruiter Crescent and Rietsanger Avenue.

Another suspect was shot and killed and two more arrested. A fourth suspect managed to escape. Stolen cellphones, perfumes, a laptop and an unlicensed firearm were seized and their getaway vehicle impounded.

Police are still searching for one of the suspects who is believed to an ex-convict.
