Night at Birch Acres tavern turns violent on V-day

An evening of drinking at a Birch Acres tavern on Mububulu Street near Birch Acres Mall turned into an armed robbery on Valentine’s Day.

According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, two suspects entered the establishment at around 9.45pm. One was armed with a broken beer bottle.

“It is alleged that the two males threatened to stab a patron,” Molokomme told Express. “The victim was pushed down and robbed of money and his cellphone.”

Molokomme valued the stolen property at around R9 000.

One suspect was pointed out to police on Sunday.

“He was arrested after refusing to give his details to the officers,” Molokomme said. He will face charges of armed robbery.
