Kew business robbers arrested in Ecaleni Section

One firearm was recovered with four live rounds of ammunition.

Two men were arrested in Ecaleni section for a business robbery committed in Kew on February 7.

Tembisa SAPS Capt Manyadza Ralidzhivha said it is alleged that a Johannesburg North task team received information about the business robbery in Kew, next to Bramley.

The suspect had also hijacked the vehicle from the scene.

A chase ensued with the suspects and the task team from Johannesburg until the suspects were cornered in Mbongo Street, Ecaleni section.

“When suspects noticed that they were cornered, they started to shoot at the police who then retaliated. One suspect was fatally shot and two were apprehended while one suspect managed to evade arrest,” said Ralidzhivha.

He said one firearm was recovered with four live rounds of ammunition.

“The suspects were expected to appear before a magistrate, facing charges of business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and illegal possession of ammunition, attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen property and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.”

The police are appealing to members of the community to help with the information of the whereabouts of the suspect who managed to run away. Any information can be given to 08600 10111, 112 or SMS to 32211.
