Municipal offices in Emangweni section were robbed by eight unknown suspects on February 15.
Capt Manyadza Ralidzhivha said a 27-year-old and his two colleagues were guarding the premises when they were accosted by the suspects.
“The victims alleged they were in the guard room during the early hours of February 15.
“The door was kicked open and four suspects entered the guard room. Two of the suspects pointed firearms at them. The 27-year old victim was assaulted with the butt of the firearm on his head.
“They tied all of them up and the 27-year-old victim was robbed of his cellphone.
“The 27-year-old victim then noticed there were about eight suspects,” said Ralidzhivha.
He said one of the suspects plug an electric extension into a socket in the guardroom.
“They started cutting copper cables with a grinder into pieces of about 10m and dragged it to the back gate of the premises. “They took the keys to the back gate from the guardroom to unlock it.
“We don’t know how the copper cables were transported from the premises.
“The suspects left the scene at dawn,” Ralidzhivha explained.
Police who attended to the scene found a grinder and two hammers. A case of business robbery was opened at Tembisa Police Station.
