Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court sentenced Ronaldo Wilskut (34) to two years’ imprisonment, or a fine of R18 000, on February 28.
Wilskut was arrested for fraud in Glen Marais on November 7, 2018.
“Wilskut attempted to cash a cheque of R48 950 at First National Bank at Woodbridge Square,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“The bank’s private investigators questioned the cheque’s authenticity and contacted the person whose name appeared on the cheque to verify it, but they knew nothing about it.”
Mtshali said the bank’s investigators questioned Wilskut more about the cheque until he confessed to the cheque being counterfeit.
Police were summoned to the scene and the suspect was arrested.
“We thank the team of investigators from FNB who worked with the investigating officer, D/Sgt Tumelo Phaka, to ensure that this fraudster was brought to book,” concluded Mtshali.
