Security guards lie about ‘armed robbery’

The suspects were seen tampering with the CCTV cameras

Two security officers were arrested in Spartan on Monday morning on charges of theft and defeating the ends of justice.

The officers allegedly reported a false armed robbery at the property where they work.

“The officers said they were robbed at gunpoint by two armed suspects driving a red Toyota Corolla on March 17,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“The suspects further alleged three empty 300kg plastic drums worth R1 380 were stolen during the ‘robbery’.”

Mtshali said investigations revealed the suspects tampered with the CCTV cameras and were seen intentionally placing something in front of the cameras to obstruct the view.

Both suspects, aged 26 and 30, were arrested the following day at their place of work.
