Ivory Park station commander Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo has expressed shock at the brutal killing of a man by a mob in Ivory Park’s Extension Nine.
Ngcobo said it is alleged that shortly before he was killed, the man went to an address in the area, stole a plasma TV and, while on his way out, he met the owner of the place. The deceased allegedly took out a firearm, shot the owner in the leg and made a run for it. By then the mob had already gotten wind of what was happening and gave chase. He was assaulted with everything they could lay their hands on and he died on the scene.
“The firearm, which he allegedly used in the shooting, was handed to the police. The deceased, who is 35 years old and is from Emmangweni Section, Tembisa, was stoned to death early on Thursday after he allegedly shot another man in the leg,” said Ngcobo.
“As much as we are faced with crime on a daily basis, my appeal to the community of this area is that we must desist from taking the law into our own hands as some innocent people may end up dying during these mob-induced incidents,” said Ngcobo.
A case of murder has been opened at the Ivory Park SAPS and the police are determined to follow all angles in establishing what exactly happened.
