Ivory Park police are calling on any member of the public with knowledge of a murder and robbery incident during which a 36-year-old man was shot twice and killed at Ivory Park’s Extension 10 in the early hours of Saturday this past weekend.
Capt Bernard Matimulane said it is alleged that the victim, reportedly a Johannesburg-practising advocate, was asleep when he and his wife were confronted by one of the three armed robbers. The robber allegedly demanded cellphones from the victims, which he was handed. It is alleged that the deceased tried to reach for the firearm, but was overpowered and was shot twice.
“The family’s ordeal began when their neighbour, known to the family, came knocking at the door. Being familiar with their neighbour, a member of the deceased’s family opened the door, unaware that the neighbour was being escorted into their home by armed men,” said Matimulane.
“Once the door opened, the robbers, three in total, demanded cellphones from anyone in the house. During the murder and robbery, a total of six cellphones and a laptop were taken. The deceased was rushed to hospital where he later died,” added Matimulane.
Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, has expressed shock at this brutal murder and is appealing to any member of the community regarding this incident to come forward.
“Let anyone with information tip us off as these people may go on terrorising the community if not stopped as a matter of urgency,” said Ngcobo.
