The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, thanked members of the community whose tip-offs led to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and the arrest of an alleged drug dealer.
Ngcobo said two sector policing members were on patrol on March 15 when they were approached by community members who told them about someone selling drugs in the Joe Slovo informal settlement in Ivory Park Extension Nine.
“After introducing themselves to the occupant of the shack, the officers were granted permission to search the shack. The same guy allegedly selling drugs was found with a .22 pistol with four rounds of live ammunition. The pistol had its serial number filed off and the owner, a 28-year-old man, had no licence for it,” said Ngcobo.
He was promptly arrested and detained and was expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
“We urge the community to keep coming forward with tip-offs such as this one in order to create safer living spaces for all the law-abiding citizens,” said Ngcobo.
