A man in possession of one legal and one illegal firearm has been arrested by Benoni Flying Squad at a filling station in Emkhathini Section over the weekend.
Constables Thabiso Mabaso and Zacky Chauke, upon following up information, found a suspect in a white Nissan Skyline at the filling station in possession of two firearms.
WO Grant Giblin, spokesperson for Benoni Flying Squad, said the suspect produced a licence for the 9mm Llama pistol. However, a 9mm Norinco pistol also found in his possession had its number filed off and was not licensed. The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and the firearms confiscated.
The flying squad also recovered four stolen vehicles – a white Nissan NP200 in Umthambeka Section, stolen in Midrand; a white Volkswagen Polo in Ivory Park Ext 7 hijacked in Tembisa; a white Toyota Hilux in Klipfontein View robbed in Sunninghill; and a grey Volkswagen Jetta in Maokeng Section, hijacked in Norwood.
