Kempton Park SAPS arrested a 61-year-old suspect for perjury on Sunday.
The suspect reported a truck hijacking on the morning of March 29.
“The suspect told police he was driving a white truck and stopped at a Pomona truck shop where he alleged he was approached by three males who pointed a firearm at him,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“The suspect also claimed the suspects drove around with him and dumped him at a nearby bush.”
Ditshego said the suspect made contradictory statements to police.
“He was called in for further questioning, but he gave different statements and this was where we discovered the suspect opened a false case,” said Ditshego.
It was later discovered the suspect’s son-in-law was in possession of the truck before it was found abandoned in Primrose, Germiston.
