An armed robber was killed after being shot by his victim during an attempted armed robbery at Auto Pedigree in Spartan on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, the victim was apparently followed from a bank in Festival Mall to his place of work.
“The robber was spotted with a firearm as he got out of a silver Dodge at the entrance of the company. He followed the victim inside, who was driving into the premises.”
Mtshali told Express the victim, who was also armed, noticed he was being followed and saw the deceased was carrying a firearm.
“The robber pointed the firearm at the victim, who retaliated by shooting the deceased on the upper body,” said Mtshali.

Paramedics on the scene declared the suspect dead.
It is suspected that the deceased’s firearm is unlicensed.
“The firearm’s serial number is filed off, which raises suspicion that it might be an unlicensed firearm but we will investigate. We are investigating an armed robbery case and an inquest docket will be opened,” concluded Mtshali.
Following the incident, Auto Pedigree closed for business and employees were told to leave.
The shooting occurred 400m from Spartan High School.
