Twenty-two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol by the metro police on Saturday. This followed an operation near the airport.
Metro spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said the operation took place between 2pm and 10pm.
A crime prevention and general law enforcement drive was also conducted by the specialised units comprising public order policing, K9, SWAT, equestrian and first responder units, targeting problematic areas with a focus mainly on Kempton Park CBD.
On Wednesday from 8am until midday, the units blitzed Pretoria Road between Commissioner Street and Highveld Road, with 97 spot summonses issued, 165 vehicles stopped-and-searched, five vehicles discontinued and one impounded.
Five flats on Long Street were searched, and a suspect was arrested for possession of narcotics.
Kgasago said high visibility patrols were conducted on Thursday between 2pm and 6pm on all freeways, including the N3, N12, R59, R21, R24, N17 and R23 at pre-identified problematic spots. One stolen vehicle was recovered, six were discontinued and 416 spot summonses issued.
