
A 35-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday night after being found in possession of 250 rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect was arrested at Kempton Park Taxi Rank on Pretoria Road.
“Kempton Park Railway Police were patrolling at the taxi rank when they noticed three suspicious-looking men with one of them carrying a school bag,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“As police approached them one of them ran away. Police managed to search the remaining two and found 250 rounds of live ammunition in the school bag. The suspect could not explain how he got the ammunition and also failed to produce a firearm licence.”
Mtshali said 150 roundswere for a rifle and the other 100 for a 9mm pistol.
The suspect was arrested for possession of live ammunition.
