Celebrating Family Day for a greater cause

Kasi Angels hosted a Family Day fund-raising event on April 27 at Kopanong Sports Ground, Ivory Park.

The 10-hour event started at 9am in the morning, inviting parents and children to join the event for a greater cause.

The event was aimed at raising funds to be able to buy school learners in primary schools and surrounding local identified high schools a full school uniform.

The event is a continuation of last year’s event held at Kaalfontein on Christmas Day. Kasi Angels organiser Willie Ngwenya said the previous event’s success led to the continuation of the work and the support that came showed that anything is possible.

Among the other organisers are Mpho Thubisa, Nthabiseng Nkumane, Wendy Matlaila, and DJ Black-Soul, all being Ivory Park residents. During the events, the guests were entertained with local house music, deep house and soul music. Among the dj’s were Mash O, DJ Black-Soul, Big Vee, Deep Motion and many more who offered to play for free during the course of the event.

There were jumping castles to entertain the young ones and the old were enjoying their cooler boxes with vendors in the business opportunity space.

Matlaila said it is always a privilege to donate something to a needy child.

“We will be donating jerseys and shoes to needy children from schools, including Ivory Park Secondary School, Ebomini Primary School, Mikateka Primary School and Winnie Mandela High School,” said Matlaila.

“We are thankful to the musicians who came to play for us for free and the jumping castles were booked at a much cheaper price, as well as the decor in the IVP section,”

“The event is aimed at returning the dignity of a child. With a full school uniform, a child gets their confidence back,” said Mboni Rammusi, a parent.

“It is a matter of trying to support the awareness they are creating by donating and supporting a child at school. We are trying to help support and grow the event,” added Rammusi.

Nkumane said they wish to do the event at least twice a year because one pair of school shoes cannot last a child throughout the whole year.

“It is hard for a child to go to school with teared clothing because they meet with their peers who are well dressed and this gives them the opportunity to mock and push him around,” said Nkumane.

Mpumi Mathonsi, a community member from Kaalfontien Extension Two, said she came all the way from Kaalfontein to support the cause of the event.

“I am very proud of the organisers because not everyone thinks of creating such events.

“I would like to see sponsors and businesses show up at the event to support and raise funds for the children,” said Mathonsi.
