Sewage flow a no-go for frustrated Edleen resident

“I’m tired of complaining,” the homeowner said.

An Edleen resident, who has struggled with sewage flowing on his property for 26 years, says he is fed up with the City of Ekurhuleni.

“I’m tired of complaining,” pensioner Pieter du Preez (71) told Express at his home on Granaat Street, where he’s lived since 1993.

“The sewage doesn’t always flow away from the property, and when I use water for daily tasks it pushes everything up,” du Preez explained.

A drain on his property, surrounded by dried-up pieces of toilet paper, adds to his frustration.

Du Preez claimed he pays someone around R400 each year to clean the mess because the municipality doesn’t respond to his complaints.

“I’m a pensioner, I can’t afford this anymore,” the frustrated resident said.

The municipality failed to respond to Express’ questions about the matter.
