Cashless system at civic centre licensing desk is a method of deterring robbers

The metro has introduced a cash-free zone at the licensing department at Kempton Park Civic Centre.

The new cashless payment method at the licensing department at Kempton Park Civic Centre was implemented to improve control measures.

This payment method became effective on April 1 and the notice informing customers was placed at the entrance of the centre.

Express was notified of the notice by a concerned resident who felt it was an inconvenience to only accept card payments as not everybody used bank cards.

The metro, however, feels differently and said the objective was to introduce a cash-free zone.

“This method is convenient to customers as they are not expected to carry cash and it is a deterrent to robbers and any other risk that may arise,” said Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson.
