R4.4-million worth of drugs found concealed in wine crates in Birchleigh home

The suspects, aged 38 and 43, will be charged with dealing in drugs

Heroin, crystal meth and cocaine worth R4.4-million, carefully concealed inside two wine crates, were confiscated at a Birchleigh home on May 2.The valuable package was to travel to Amsterdam via OR Tambo International Airport, but the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) intervened.

According to Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu, spokesperson for the Hawks, two alleged drug dealers were arrested.

“The suspects, aged 38 and 43, will be charged with dealing in drugs,” he said.

This operation was one of many across Johannesburg last week, as SANEB took hands with Serious Organised Crime, Crime Intelligence and Ekurhuleni Metro Police SWAT team to put a stop to drug trade in the city.
