A VW Polo hijacked in Esselen Park on Saturday was recovered by the metro police in Tembisa the next day.
The 40-year-old owner was accosted by two assailants, one of whom was armed, at 11pm.
“A lookout was received on Sunday at 1pm by the EMPD Community Liaison Unit, who located the vehicle near Iqgaqga Section in Tembisa,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesperson.
“The lookout from Rentrak was immediately acted upon by members who managed to recover the vehicle at 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon. The VW Polo was found abandoned among shacks at Madelakufa, opposite Iqgaqga Section.
“The owner was contacted and he brought the spare key to the scene and the recovered vehicle was taken to the police Van Ryn Deep pound in Benoni for further investigations,” said Kgasago.
