A 19-year-old man was arrested on the evening of May 3 at Lekaneng Section, Tembisa, for armed robbery.

Capt Ralidzhivha Manyadza, the Tembisa SAPS communications officer, said it was alleged by a 22-year-old man that he was going to Mpho Section to buy something. While he was under the pedestrian bridge at Moteong Section, Andrew Mapheto drive, he met three unknown men.

“One of three suspects was in possession of a firearm. He held the complainant at gunpoint and hit him in the face with the butt of the firearm. The complainant sustained an open wound. They robbed him of his two cellphones and cash whereafter they walked away,” said Manyadza.

“The complainant immediately informed his friends about the robbery. They followed the suspects towards Lekaneng Section robot. They approached the metro police and informed them about the robbery and the complainant pointed the suspect out to the police.

“The police gave chase and arrested one of the suspects. The other two managed to get away. The 19-year-old was detained at Tembisa Police Station on a charge of armed robbery.

He will soon appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of armed robbery,” added Manyadza.
