Police warn people about isolated spot after murder and rape in Clayville Ext 45

The only piece of available information is that the suspect may be in his early 30s

Ivory Park police are appealing to the public for information regarding a murder on Friday evening, during which a man in his 20s was shot and killed and his girlfriend was raped by the same suspect.

Capt Bernard Matimulane, Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson, said it was reported that the young couple went out for a late afternoon prayer at an isolated place in Clayville Extension 45. On their way back, they were confronted by an armed man who ordered them to lie down. Once he was done tying up the man, he demanded money and cellphones from both parties, who had none.

“He then instructed the woman, aged 16, to strip down and he raped her while her boyfriend was watching. The boyfriend pleaded with him to not harm her and the suspect fired two shots at him. One struck him on the upper back and he died instantly,” said Matimulane.

“The only piece of available information is that the suspect may be in his early 30s, but the police are doing all the necessary detection to establish who this person may be, based on the description given to them. However, they are appealing to any member of the public to come forward with information, should they know who the responsible person is,” added Matimulane.

“The isolated spot where this incident took place is a perennial headache for the police and they warn people who visit this spot to be extra careful,” said Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS.
