Robberies are rife outside Rhodesfield Gautrain Station

“The police consider the area a hot spot and advise commuters to be alert at all times, especially when it gets dark.”

Gautrain passengers using the Rhodesfield Gautrain Station are regular targets for robbers, who are often armed.

Yet another incident occurred on April 29 shortly after 6pm.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson, a 35-year-old victim was walking to her car at the corner of Ventura and Anson streets, when she was accosted by two suspects.

“Only one was armed with a firearm. The woman was robbed of her cellphone and a laptop. During the struggle, one suspect assaulted the victim,” said Mtshali.

“We confirm there have been several similar incidents in the area where victims were robbed at gunpoint. Although the crime prevention unit is usually deployed to patrol the area at specific times, some commuters still fall victim to robbers,” said Mtshali.

“We appeal to the community and other law enforcement agencies to assist us in apprehending the suspects. Plans, which cannot be disclosed now, are in the pipeline to make a breakthrough soon.

“The police consider the area a hot spot and advise commuters to be alert at all times, especially when it gets dark.”
