Water outage prolonged as team runs into difficulties

Terblanche said the team on site also ran into challenges when the new pipe did not fit properly to the existing one

Water in several Kempton Park suburbs is still off following repairs to a pipeline on Albatross Street in Rhodesfield last night.

Water was supposed to be back on at 2am on Wednesday morning but contractors are still on site finishing off.

According to ward councillor Jaco Terblanche fire hydrants were opened at 6pm on Tuesday evening to empty the pipeline for work to start at 9pm.

However, for some reason the hydrants were closed again which resulted in flooding at the site. This delayed repair work, which could only start at 11pm.

Terblanche said the team on site also ran into challenges when the new pipe did not fit properly to the existing one.

According to him water should be opened at 10am and stabilise around noon.

The affected areas include Kempton Park CBD, Aston Manor, Glen Marais, Nimrod Park, Pomona and Bredell.
