Tembisa South SAPS crime prevention unit arrested a man in possession of hijacked motor vehicle, unlicensed firearm and ammunition, at Ibaxa Section on May 21.
Tembisa South SAPS communication officer Capt Neldah Sekgobela said during the execution of the normal patrol duties, the police gave chase to a gold BMW vehicle.
“The vehicle was allegedly hijacked last month in Wierdabrug.
“The SAPS members noticed the same car which lost control and bumped into a stop sign pole.
“One of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.
“The police managed to arrest the other suspect who was driving the car.
“They searched him and a firearm and magazine loaded with ammunition were found in his possession.
“The serial number was filled off,” said Sekgobela.
She said the 37-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to Tembisa South SAPS police station for detention.
The suspect will be charged with possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
