A 38-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition on May 25.
The Kempton Park SAPS crime prevention unit was conducting stop-and-search operations in the Kempton Park central business district on Pretoria Road as it is a hot spot for robberies.
“The officers noticed that a man tried to run into one of the pubs to avoid being searched,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“Police ran after him and asked to search him, which was when they found him in possession of a firearm with two rounds of live ammunition. The serial number of the 9mm pistol was filed off.”
Ditshego said the Kempton Park SAPS station commander, Brig Samuel Maredi, applauded the members for a job well done.
“The station commander also hopes the suspect is linked to other robberies that occurred on Pretoria Road and if so will help reduce the robberies in the CBD,” said Ditshego.
