A 39- year-old man was on April 30 sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for the murder of Bonginkosi Clement Mlaza, a crime committed at Madelakufa Extension Two on September 30, 2017.
Rabasotho SAPS communication officer Capt Manyadza Ralidzhivha said the deceased, Mlaza, was in his shack when he and other community members heard a noise of people who were fighting outside. Some community members tried to intervene, however, one one of the men involved in the scuffle entered his shack and stayed for a while.
“The suspect, Admission Mzolisi Willington Phuteni (39), who was carrying a spear, entered the shack, and stabbed Mlaza (46) who was a physically challenged person,” said Ralidzhivha.
“Mlaza was also a member of the Tembisa Policing Community Forum. The deceased was found lying in a pool of blood in the shack. He was certified dead on the scene. The suspect fled,” explained Ralidzhivha.
“The docket was assigned to D/Sgt Malesela Moloantoa for further investigation. He traced the suspect until he found him at his workplace a week later,” added Ralidzhivha.
The suspect, Phuteni, was charged with murder on April 30, and found guilty as charged at Tembisa Regional Court. He was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for murder. He was further declared unfit to possess a fire-arm.
