Men arrested in Hospital View for car hijacking

Security guards save life of hijacking victim.

Two men, aged 24 and 33, were arrested in Hospital View on May 2 at about 3.30am for a car hijacking that happened at Essellenpark, Greenfield.

The security officer who was on duty at a construction site next to the Hospital View area alleged he heard somebody screaming in the bushes while he was on patrol. He informed his colleagues and they immediately went to investigate.

Capt Manyadza Ralidzhivha, Rabasotho SAPS communications officer, said the patrolers saw two men standing and one man lying on the ground. Upon seeing the security guards, the two men ran away. The man on the ground was severely assaulted.

“They arranged an ambulance for him and called the police to the scene. While still on the scene, the security guards noticed another man who was walking in the vicinity where the victim was rescued,” said Ralidzhivha.

“They took him to the ambulance where the injured was. The victim identified him as one of the suspects who hijacked his Toyota Venture in Essellenpark, Greenfield.

“The police arrived and arrested the 24-year-old man. He led police to his accomplice at a house in Hospital View. On arrival at the house, the 24-year-old pointed him out. He tried to run away, but the police gave chase, caught him and arrested him. The 33-year-old man took police to Winnie Mandela, where the vehicle was found parked with no keys,” added Ralidzhivha.

The suspects were detained at Tembisa police cells. They will appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon to answer charges of car hijacking, kidnapping, assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
