Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court sentenced Matume Serumule (25) to 12 years imprisonment for murder on May 23.
It was heard in court that Serumule brutallly killed his stepfather with a knife in 2016.
“Serumule and his stepfather got into a heated argument on November 27, 2016 at the Kaalfontein informal settlement,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“The argument lead to Serumule stabbing his stepfather several times on the upper body with a knife in the presence of his mother who watched helplessly.”
Paramedics declared the victim dead on the scene and Serumule, who was within the vicinity, was arrested and detained until he was sentenced.
“Police management was pleased with the sentence and applauded the arresting officer, Sgt Carien Schultz, and the investigating officer, D/Const Sello Mokgawa,” said Mtshali.
