Metro police saturate CBD and surrounding areas

The intensive exercise yielded two arrests

The EMPD Specialised Services section, comprising K9, SWAT, drug enforcement, public order policing task team and overloads units saturated Kempton Park Central Business District and surrounding areas on Friday.

The crime prevention operation was conducted between 8am and midday, said Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesperson.

The intensive exercise yielded two arrests for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of narcotics valued at over R15 000. Additionally, nine vehicles were impounded for illegal parking, one vehicle issued with a discontinue notice, 16 spot summonses issued for defects and documentation. Fifteen premises were subjected to searches with over 40 vehicles stopped and searched.

The two arrested suspects, together with the recovered firearm and 18 Ziplocks of crystal methamphetamine and 28 Ziplocks of khat were registered at Kempton Park Police Station.
