Phomolong men arrested for possession of ammunition, explosives

This success was part of the police's effort to rid the communities of illegal firearms and to fight the scourge of drugs in the area.

On June 6, Ivory Park SAPS arrested two suspects in the early hours of the morning in Phomolong area for possession of an unlicensed firearm, drugs and explosive equipment.

Ekurhuleni North District : Sub North communications officer Capt Nelda Sekgobela said this success was part of their effort to rid the communities of illegal firearms and to fight the scourge of drugs in the area.

“On the day, at about 2pm, officers of Ivory Park were patrolling the area when they acted on a tip-off regarding the suspect who was allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm in Phomolong area, Rabie Ridge. They proceeded to the address which is at Dladla Street, Phomolong. On arrival there they found the two suspects.

“The police found a 9mm pistol with one magazine and four rounds of live ammunition in possession of one of the suspects,” said Sekgobela.

She said in the room of the other suspect they found two kilogram of Cat, 106 Cat pills, one small bag of dagga and 27 Mandrax tablets. Both suspects, aged 21 and 39, were arrested and detained at Rabie Ridge SAPS,” said Sekgobela.

Maj Gen Vincent Leshabane of Ekurhuleni District commended the SAPS members for their swift response in order to ensure the safety of the community.

The suspects will appear in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges on possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunitions, drugs and explosive devices.
