Kemptonians are urged to switch off all unnecessary appliances to prevent the current power outage in Glen Marais and Norkem Park from escalating.
Ward councillor Jaco Terblanche made this plea as technicians are testing a power line before electricity to these areas will be restored on Monday afternoon.
According to him power should be restored around 3pm.
He explained why Glen Marais was left without electricity last night and again on Monday morning. He said the revamped Glen Marais substation was currently functioning with only two instead of three transformers.

Maintenance on the Van Riebeeck Park substation on Sunday left Van Riebeeck Park, Edleen, Terenure, Kempton Park West and Birch Acres without power. When power was restored to these areas on Sunday night, the two transformers at the Glen Marais substation overloaded and tripped.
“If we cannot bring the load down, the problem could only escalate, said Terblanche. He said the current cold weather could worsen the situation.
