POWER UPDATE: Unplanned outages are foreseen until Saturday

The projected project completion date is Saturday, June 29.

Some residents could experience unplanned power outages this week following the maintenance work done at the Van Riebeeck Park substation on Sunday.

Power in Van Riebeeck Park, Edleen, Terenure, Kempton Park West and Birch Acres was off for about 12 hours on Sunday to allow for the maintenance to take place.

Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro, said new power, protection and control infrastructure was installed at the substation. As a result of these activities, it was  required to switch off power for the safety of employees.

Due to the nature of work, the metro anticipates unplanned and unnotified power outages to some customers during the implementation of the project.

The reasons for the above is the network configurations and unavailability of one transformer from phase one to phase three of the project.

The projected project completion date is Saturday, June 29.

The areas that may be affected are Terenure, Kempton Park West, Edleen and Birch Acres.
