‘Dagga dealer’ tries to assault police officer

The suspect will face charges of dealing in dagga, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest

A suspected drug dealer (34) tried to assault a Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) member when dagga worth R2 500 was found in his possession.

According to flying squad spokesperson WO Grant Giblin, the incident happened on July 15 around 9pm in Emfihlweni Section.

WO Mokgadi Mpebe, WO Mike Semenya and Sgt Rodney Ramaroka followed up information. Four plastic bags containing dagga were found in a room.

“The suspect resisted arrest and attempted to assault Ramaroka. However, he was subdued and restrained for arrest,” said Giblin.

The dagga weighed in excess of 800g.

Giblin said large quantities of dagga and the sale thereof remain unlawful.

The suspect will face charges of dealing in dagga, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
