Woman robbed and forced out of car on Monument Road

The police appeal to residents to avoid accepting lifts from strangers as they might become victims of crime

A 29-year-old woman was robbed of her belongings after accepting a lift from strangers on Monument Road on Monday afternoon.

The suspects approached the victim to ask for directions.

“The victim said she was walking along Monument Road when the two suspects, driving a silver Audi A4, stopped next to her and pretended to need directions,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“While giving directions, the occupants of the vehicle told her to get into the vehicle and unsuspecting she did. While driving, one of the suspects drew a firearm and robbed her of her money, cellphone and laptop.”

Mtshali also said the victim was forced out of the vehicle on the corner of Monument Road and Central Avenue. She didn’t report any injuries as a result of the incident.

“We appeal to residents to avoid accepting lifts from strangers as they might become victims of crime,” said Mtshali.

“A case of armed robbery is being investigated and police are on the hunt for the suspects. Anyone with information can contact 08600 10111.”
