Apply now for special votes for the by-election in ward 15

The ward became vacant after DA ward councillor Gideon van Zyl resigned earlier this year

Residents of ward 15 (Van Riebeeck Park, Birchleigh and parts of Glen Marais) can now apply for special votes for the by-election which will take place on August 7.

Special votes will be cast on August 6 at all the voting stations in the ward as well as through home visits from 8am to 5pm.

The ward became vacant after DA ward councillor Gideon van Zyl resigned earlier this year.

On election day all voting stations will be open from 7am until 9pm.

Voters wishing to apply to cast a special vote can apply at the local IEC office on the ground floor at Kempton Park Civic Centre during office hours until July 26.

Applications for special votes can also be made online via the IEC’s website, www.elections.org.za. Once voters have applied online they will receive an SMS notifying them of the outcome when their application has been processed.

They can also check the status of their special vote application online at www.elections.org.za.

Voters can also apply for special votes via cellphone by SMSing their identity number to 32249 (Charged at R1). The SMS application facility is only available for those applying to cast a special vote at their voting station and not for home visits.

Four parties will contest the by-election, namely the ANC (Mahlomola Phineas Momoti), DA (Amanda Davison), EFF (Thabang Given Matlala) and the Vryheidsfront Plus (Johann Jordaan).
