Aganda Patrick Mgwadleka (37) was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for theft in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on July 3.
Mgwadleka was arrested on April 22 after stealing from Woolworths Festival Mall.
“Mgwadleka was spotted by security officers taking various shoes and putting them into a bag,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“He was stopped and searched by security as he tried to leave the store without having paid for the shoes.”
Mtshali also said that on July 17 Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court sentenced Roslyn Sibanda (34) to three years’ imprisonment for theft.
Sibanda was arrested on June 7 after stealing clothes valued at R720 from PG Festival Mall.
“Acting station commander for Kempton Park SAPS Col Lesetja Manewa was pleased with both sentences and hoped it would serve as a warning to other would-be shoplifters,” said Mtshali.
