Police grab man for murder while trying to report assault

The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim several times in the upper body

A 37-year-old man was arrested at Kempton Park Police Station on a charge of murder on Sunday.

The arrest took place when the suspect tried to open an assault case against the man he allegedly killed the previous night.

“It is alleged that on Saturday night, the victim and suspect attended a party at Max Informal Settlement in Pomona,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“The two allegedly argued, which led to the suspect stabbing the victim several times in the upper body, leaving him in a pool of blood before fleeing the scene.”

Paramedics arrived and declared the victim dead on the scene and the police began their manhunt for the suspect.

“The following morning, the suspect went to Kempton Park Police Station to report an assault case. When he was giving details of what happened, police were able to link the suspect to the murder,” said Mtshali.
