A 35-year-old suspect was arrested on August 1 in Tembisa after he was found in possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
According to the EMPD spokesperson, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the vehicle in question, a white Nissan NP200, belonging to a company in Kempton Park, was stolen in January.
“Apparently, the thieves had identified a similar vehicle elsewhere and the intention was to clone the stolen vehicle. Unfortunately, lady luck did not smile at the thief as a tip-off was received by the EMPD Specialized Task Team about the stolen vehicle. Police reacted on the tip-off and the vehicle was recovered on August 1 in Tembisa. The suspect was arrested on the spot,” clarified Kgasago.
“Upon questioning, the suspect claimed he had recently bought the vehicle from a private person residing in Alexandra for R10 000. The number plate displayed was fake and when running the chassis number it was confirmed the vehicle was stolen and in the process of being cloned. The suspect was detained at Tembisa Police Station on possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” said Kgasago.
