Benoni Flying Squad arrests eight suspect in Tembisa

A Volkswagen Polo was hijacked in Enxiweni Section.

From August 2 to August 4 Benoni Flying Squad officers arrested eight suspects, recovered five motor vehicles, two unlicensed firearms and 13 live rounds of ammunition.

According to the Benoni Flying Squad communications officer, WO Grant Giblin, among the arrests was a man in possession of rocks (cocaine) at Winnie Mandela Section, Zone 9, Tembisa. The officers were following up on a tip-off and the man was arrested immediately and drugs to the value of R100 were confiscated.

Another man was arrested in George Nyanga Street, Tembisa after causing an accident. It is alleged he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Investigation in all cases continues. The community is advised to always be aware when drawing or having to deposit large sums of cash. Be alert for potential vehicles following you or parking suspiciously at your intended destination. If anything suspicious is noted, contact 10111 immediately or drive to your nearest police station,” said Giblin.

The suspects, aged 23 to 35, will appear in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges of dealing in drugs, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
