The Democratic Alliance has retained Ward 15 in the Wednesday’s by-election.
The new Ward councillor is Amanda Davison, who takes over from Gideon van Zyl, who resigned earlier this year.
The ward comprises Van Riebeeck Park, Birchleigh and a section of Glen Marais.
Davison got 63.79 per cent (2 877 votes) of the votes.
Johann Jordaan of the Freedom Front Plus got 30.22 per cent (1 363 votes), Phineas Momoti of the ANC 5.10 per cent (230 votes) and Thabang Matlala of the EFF 0.89 per cent (40 votes).
Only 27.64 per cent of registered voters showed up at the polling stations.
John Moodey MPL and Gauteng provincial leader said: “We are highly encouraged that the DA retained these wards [the DA also won Ward 8 in the Rand West City Local Municipality] and are committed to keep working hard to fight for better service delivery and to put residents first.
“The DA is confident that the elected ward councillors, Amanda Davison and Nicolette Claudine Kiewietz, will continue serving their communities unrelentingly.
“We thank all the residents who voted for us again, so that we can keep working to bring about change to the people of Gauteng. Where we govern in Gauteng, we are providing more efficient services such as improving water supply to informal settlements, exposing corruption, creating jobs and extending clinic hours.”
