Several Edleen residents have been complaining about streets lights in various streets which had been on during the day for quite some time.
Despite reporting the matter to the City of Ekurhuleni, these lights stayed on, until Wednesday evening when most of them were off.
But why were these lights burning during the day?
According to Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro, City officials were conducting maintenance in the Edleen area.
“This involved switching on the lights during the day (business hours). The exercise will be concluded by August 8,” he said.
“The maintenance required inspection of each luminaire in the street and therefore took time. However, the benefit of the maintenance is that the City is able to identify and rectify streetlight problems before they escalate.”
